Wow, it's been awhile since I've last updated this thing. I've been kinda busy, with school ehhh yeah, sure. There has been a lot of great new music released and I really don't want to waste anytime so let's get right to it, with a track from 2003.

Cut Copy - Stars

Here's a b-side from Cut Copy's first album Bright Like Neon Love. I'm still in love with In Ghost Colours but also have been listening to this song recently and wanted to share it with you. Cut Copy are an amazing band and will definitely make it on to many album of the year lists.

The Presets - Anywhere

Continuing with the Modular People's releases is the finale from The Preset's new album! This is by far one of the most epically constructed tracks on the album. It begins with a basic electronic beat, culminating with bombastic synths and suggestive lyrics. A more perfect track could not have been picked to close the album, after listening to this the album feels complete. It's as if there was nothing more that could be done to album.

autoKratz - Last Show

Here's an older tune from English electro-rockers autoKratz who are known for their creative song make up. However, this is one of their more formulaic songs with standard arrangements, lyrics and proper song structure. This song may be basic in comparison to their other releases but it suffices as any dance song should. You'll surely enjoy listening to this song.

Broke One - The New Wave

I love Italio Disco so much, so naturally I'd enjoy an electronic artist from Italy with a song called The New Wave. While not exactly, Italio Disco, Broke One's new EP We're Crossing The Same Road utilizes many techniques and tricks from classic Italio Disco to create some mind blowing electro music. And The New Wave is far from the best track on the release. I can't wait to hear more from Broke One, and after hearing this track you won't be able to either.

The Phonograph - Erasmus (Broke One Remix)

...and you don't have to. Broke One's remixing abilities seem to be on par with his song crafting skill. This remix is even more reminiscent of classic Italio Disco, which is always good.

Too Much New Stuff

It's time again for another post chalked full of new songs form a slew of established electro bands and one new disco band. Yes, the new music keeps leaking on the net and I for one cannot get enough of it. Here are some of my favorite songs from the past week.

The Presets - This Boys In Love

While this single may not be as heavy as My People it packs just as much of a punch. It is way more relaxed yet fast paced enough to keep the dancing going. I love the music video and feel that this is a much better single than My People. Although I suspect many others would feel differently. Whatever, its all good.

The Presets - Anywhere

The Presets brand new album, Apocalypso, has just leaked. Which is no surprise considering it has been on their MySpace for quite some time now. The album is an epically produced and written set of songs that see the band explore a wide range of electronic and pop influences. From what I gather this will be much bigger and more well received than Beams. I have no doubt about it, 2008 will see The Presets reach new heights, both here in the states and worldwide! (I don't know how big they are outside of Australia.)

As for the song, it's a slow builder, it clocks in at just over six minutes and reaches the most eventful in the last two minutes. It's worth the wait, I'd like to hear some remixes of this song.

Sebastian - Momy

If you're wondering what the picture I chose for this post has to do anything, wonder no longer for I am going to explain the unexplained. Both Sebastian and the Presets are apart of this post, and both Sebastian and The Presets opened for Daft Punk on the Australian leg of the Alive tour. That's all. Momy is one of Sebastian's finest tracks from his new Motor EP. It sees him explore the use of melody, yet still retaining the dirty, distorted Ed Banger trademark sound. I feel that it is better than any Justice song, and yes I will always compare the two with each other, and is only a taste of the greatness to come which is Sebastian's full length. I can't wait for more!

Hercules and Love Affair - Raise Me Up

So now that I've been listening to this album for a good month and a half I can now safely pass judgement on what my favorite track is. Raise Me Up is a laid back disco track, one of the five songs featuring Antony on vocals. I remember reading an interview in which Antony said his voice was really pushed in the recording of this album. And with this track you can really hear it being tested to new limits. Towards the end what is done with his voice is fucking crazy! I love this track JUST for that! Without that technique of the layering of the voices this track is great but with that its out of this world unbelievably mind blowing!!!

Ladytron - Deep Blue

And I'll leave you with another cut from the Ladytron album. I like it alot more than Witching Hour already, but still need more time to delve into the tracks and see which ones are the best. This one stood out to me, though.

Woah, what a a month April is turning out to be for Electro music! A bunch of new releases have come out so far and even more are slated for the following weeks. I've been listening to nothing but new stuff for the past few weeks and I've not had time to make it through everything I've acquired. Let's start with the best of the best...

MSTRKRFT - Bounce (ft. NORE)

This is by far one of the best releases of the month! At first I skeptical of it's authenticity, two unlikely artists are working together here and it was released on April Fool's Day. I thought it was gonna be some Muzak song or something that they put out as a joke, but it turned out it was the real deal and I couldn't be happier. It's a killer track, expect to hear this on the dance floors for the next few months!

datA - Aerius Light (Breakbot's Rework)

Aerius Light leaked late last year as part of Kitsune's Compilation. It was one of the stand out tracks from that comp and now finally released as a proper single is accompanied by this slowed down more chilled out rework by Breakbot. This is unlike most of Breakbot's other remixes and reworks, I've known him to add more noise and speed to songs he remixes. He can make a banger with little effort, and it always sounds amazing! But this interpretation of Aerius Light is sufficient, I really enjoy listening to it.

Does It Offend You Yeah - We Are Rockstars

The album just leaked, same great song but with better production! This version really sounds more fine tuned and ready for the floor. The instruments are all mastered better and the sound levels compliment each other in a much more organized and logical fashion. They fine tuned this song to perfection!

The Black Ghosts vs. Lindstrom - Something New (Galactic Version)

Now, I'm not one for mash ups, I mean they are totally legit and I can listen to them, but I never go out of my way to hunt one down. I'd rather two songs mashed up live, with an instrumental track and a vocal track, or what have you. But Mash ups can be really good, and this is one of those occasions. This mash up is fuckin epic, there is no other way to describe it. I just missed out on a Black Ghosts performance here in the bay (21 and up:() and probably will be missing out on a Lindstrom set in the near future. Woe is me.

New Ladytron

So about a month ago I dedicated an entire post to Ladytron, they had just announced their new album, Velocifero. Last week they unleashed their lead single from the album entitled Black Cat and it is amazing! I can tell I am going to like this album alot more than Witching Hour. Take a listen to it, if you haven't downloaded it somewhere else already...

Ladytron - Black Cat

How erie is the elongated intro? I love it! The synth and guitar work well together, bouncing off each other until the vocals come in. The entire song is entrenched with that uncertain type of fear one gets on a cold dark night, the type of night you'd expect to encounter a black cat. Now that I've heard this, I just want more.

The Juan MacLean - Happy House

And now for an epic house jam, courtesy of DFA's Juan MacLean. This thirteen minute track sees the inclusion of piano chords, pulsating synths, housey drums and Nancey Whang's cheerful vocals. Seriously, she always sounds so happy when she's singing, listen to Dance With Me or Munk's Kick out the Chairs, always happy! This song is a bouncy tune filled with enough musical variety to keep your interest throughout the entire 13 minutes. I love Juan's longer songs and can't wait to hear the new album and maybe see him live again this year!

Klein and MBO - Dirty Talk (A Touch of Class Re-Edit)

Here's a remix of an Italo Disco heavy weight. I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Italo Disco, it's my dark dirty secret, I'd take a good Italo song over any other type of music any day of the week. I can't say I like this remix as much as the original, but it is done well and gets the job done.

Booka Shade - Planetary (Club Mix)

And finally, the newest release from electronic superstar Booka Shade. Again, I can't say I like this as much as his earlier work. (Mandarin Girl is epic!) But this is something you shouldn't pass up. Check it out for yourself. I actually like the B-Side to this release, City Tales (Neon Dub) alot more, but don't feel the need to post it just yet.

What A Show!

The above picture clearly displays how I feel at this very moment. It's Saturday night and I'm at home not doing anything because quite frankly I lack the energy and motivation to even begin to top the excitement my life has had the past few days. Justice was fucking awesome! It was the best concert I've been to since the mighty Daft Punk! I've done some other things since, and just now have gotten around to updating my blog. Sorry, but no Justice tracks today. Don't be sad though, there are plenty of other great songs to hear, so let's get started.

Franz and Shape - Eyes Like Knives

Here's a fuckin beast of an electro tune courtesy of Franz and Shape. I have no idea what they are saying in the song, however it doesn't matter. The song is a non stop assault of heavy hitting electro beats. This will keep you dancing way into the night. A must have!

Kissy Sell Out - Let There Be Blazing Light

Okay, since I'm not posting any Justice tracks today, I thought I'd post this. It's sort of a play off Justice's Let There Be Light. This track, as with most Kissy Sell out Tracks is phenomenal, enjoy!

Burial - Exit Wounds

This is the latest single from last year's critically acclaimed dubstop album. Not electro, but still ace.

Daft Punk - Da Funk (Live @ The Rex Club)

Here's a cut from a high quality Daft Punk set done in 1997. I got this from this dude's blog, where he's chronicled and posted various live sets from the French Touch masters! It's and awesome post with many great posts, do check it out!

As you can tell, I'm not really in the mood to write much. I just wanted to check in and do a quick post. My head is pounding I need some sleep, later!

Longest 2 Days, EVER!

With Justice in only TWO days, it's going to be very hard in remaining occupied. What am I going to do to pass the time? The next two days are going to be very hard to cope with. I know, I'll listen to some Justice and get fuckin psyched for the show!

Justice - DVNO (LA Riots Remix)

Wow, LA Riots know how to make an already hard hitting dance song even more hard. This remix packs more punch into the danceable DVNO, yet unlike other remixes manages to posses enough funk. The vocal edits are done really well, and add to the formulaic build up of the song. This is by far my favorite DVNO remix.

Just A Band - We Are

Here's some fresh Electro for you guys, all the way from France. We Are is a 4 and a half minute jam layered with smoothly flowing synths and elaborate pasted vocals. A few tempo shifts throughout the song allow for maximum interest to remain. This song is amazing.

Massive Attack - Mezzanine

This song is quite old, going on ten years! Why am I posting it? Because it's so good! If you don't have it, or have never heard it, please download this. Massive Attack are a vital link to the electro scene, I know the music is totally different but these guys have been making music for a long time and respect has been deserved. This is one of my favorite Massive Attack songs.

Massive Attack - Live With Me

This is off their best of CD entitled Collected, if you want to get into Massive Attack, start with that. It's a round up of all their hits and best work, plus two new songs you wouldn't be able to find anywhere else(except here). Today was cloudy and dim out, this song fit the mood perfectly. I was listening to it and felt the need to share it, I hope you enjoy.

Cut Copy - Lights And Music

Now, I know this is the third time I'm posting this song, BUT there is a valid reason. The first time this song was posted on here, it was a shady version with very poor bit rate. I wasn't proud of it and needed to post it as soon as I was able to obtain a higher quality version. The single came out and I was able to post a respectable quality version. But upon listening to the album I can tell that a much more layered and overall better version is available. I want to share it because it's so great! Download this for a new take on the already monster of a hit, Lights and Music.

2 Leaks 1 Week

What a great week for music this has been, two great artists albums have leaked and they both sound phenomenal. Cut Copy's In Ghost Ghost Colours and M83's Saturdays = Youth are two excellent releases which have jump started what has been a lackluster (when compared to 2007) first two months of music. Both revel in electronic goodness, and are better than their respective band's previous releases. You can be the judge of that as well, listen to these cuts from the albums...

Cut Copy - Nobody Lost, Nobody Found

I am in love, Cut Copy never fail to deliver danceable synth and guitar driven songs. I'm seriously in love with every track on the album! Even the at first awful So Haunted, yes even that song has grown on me. This record is bigger, louder and more bombastic than Bright Like Neon Love. Expect their songs to be everywhere, on the radio, (unless you live in America) at the store when you shop and on TV. Nobody Lost, Nobody Found is the second to last track on the album and gives the listener a last chance to dance to a fast paced up tempo song before the, as expected, slow and somber closing commences. Keep checking for more cuts from this great record.

You can't preorder In Ghost Colours just yet, but in the mean time pick up the Light and Music EP off iTunes.

M83 - Kim and Jessie

This song is pretty funny, it starts off sounding like a modern 80's pop-rock song, if that makes any sense. The vocals only add to this assertion as a very 80's bass and dated synth accompany such faux delivery. Even the riff reminds me of something 80's, like Jessie's Girl or Dancing With Myself. This is by no means a knock on the track, its killer, and I think M83 pulled it off well. It's just a tick funny when you listen to this and think about this being the same guy who wrote Car Chase Terror. A testament to his skill, I suppose? This album is far more diverse than all of M83's other work, here we see him trying an array of new things and most of them work well. As with Cut Copy, stick around for more cuts form the album.

Curses! - Hungry 4 Love

Now for a little electro-house, courtesy of Curses. I've been a fan of Curses for awhile now, but I haven't really listened any tracks by the dude for quite some time. I just got this ep and it is amazing! The track I have posted is a monster, clocking in at 8 minutes long. And it's definitely worth it, it will keep your interest!

Crystal Castles - Air War

And finally, another track from Canadian based Crystal Castles. Random CC fact for the day: Did you know their name is derived from an old Atari video game? I bet you didn't know that, well now you do and don't you feel so much better? I don't have much to say about this song other than it's amazing, you should listen to it and that Crystal Castles are pretty fuckin awesome. Check out this interview and see for your self how fucking amazing they are...

With only a week until Justice, I feel it's time to post some new tracks from one of the boys of the Ed Banger crew. These will surely get me in the mood for the cross, truly great.

Feadz - Suck It

This track is worthy of praise. This is real gangster electro, I say that because, as with most Feadz songs, gunshots can be heard intertwined with the music. It's a shame iTunes doesn't allow you to preorder the Happy Meal EP, it's definitely worth the money. So head here on a daily basis until they have finally upped the entire EP until you have bought it.

Justice - DVNO (Justice Remix)

Justice remixed their own track and the results were astounding. It's a much rawer and rougher version of the delightfully poppy freshly released single. It reminds me of that new Sebastian track, Motor, that appeared on YouTube last month. I wonder if they are going to include this in their set? I haven't seen Justice before, so I am at a loss when I even begin to try and comprehend what a Justice set includes. I don't want to know, it will ruin the surprise.

You probably already own every Justice song, but in case you don't log onto iTunes and complete what will become an essential collection.

Midfield General - Disco Sirens

Now, I know Klaxons weren't the first band to utilize the very rudimentary disco siren feature equipped on most keyboards. But they were the first band to do so in a while, so it comes without surprise that whenever I hear this song I think of Atlantis To Interzone. I know that's unfair, this song takes the sirens in a totally different direction. A much more electro direction. This is an excellent electro track. However, I do have a remix of this song that is ten times better, maybe I'll post that next time.

If you like that song, be sure and purchase some more of Midfield General's work.

The Teenagers - Love No

I can't believe it's been a year since I first stumbled upon Homecoming. I remember listening to the song and chuckling, thinking that I would never hear anything by The Teenagers again. The song was so cheeky that I couldn't imagine them writing anything else that would garner attention. They would become the blogosphere's first One-Post Wonders. I would have never expected to still be paying attention to this band a year later, I even saw them perform on my 20Th birthday, which was really amazing. Their album just dropped, be sure and pick it up, it's filled with only the smartest of songs. Here's the video for the song, I love all of The Teenager's videos as well, they are all so creative.

Boys Noize just did a show here in San Francisco, and from what I heard it was phenomenal. As with every great show, I was too young to attend. To make up for this great injustice I'll post my favorite releases from Boys Noize Records.

Boys Noize - Optic

Here's a track from a single Boys Noize released coupled with He-Man. A omnipresent metallic baseline gives the track a robotic feeling. A compressed synth outlines the track creating a not so danceable tune, regardless it is extremely good and worth having.

This track is not available on US iTunes, so consider yourselves lucky.

Boys Noize - AndDown (Siriusmo vs Boys Noize Remix)

The Oi Oi oi Remixed album is awesome. What I really enjoy about it is the fact that it is not longer than the original album! I hate when remix albums are double the size of the original LP, due to multiple remixes of single songs. Yes, this is good for the DJs, verity is better, but if this is the case a single featuring these remixes should be released, not an LP. This track packs more punch to andDown, slowing it down yet making it harder. This is by far one of my favorite tracks off the remix album.

Strip Steve - Tommy Boy

Strip Steve was signed to Boys Noize Records to release his Skip School EP. I have featured his work before. I find it much more poppy than other electro being produced right now, which fits perfectly with my taste. I really like the EP and can't wait for more from him. I wonder if he's still going to release his work through Boys Noize Records?

This song has a fantastic French Touch feel, yet manages to sound current and without the late 90's stamp that French Touch sounding music brings with it.

Shadow Dancer - Are You Now?

Shadow Dancer is an established electro artist who, from what I can gather, released this single on Boys Noize Records. (Yes, I was totally serious about rubbing Boys Noize in my face with this post) Are You Now is a track featured on the Poke EP, which has a dynamic range of sounds and styles featured on the four song EP. Are You Now has to be the least poppy, I wanted to balance out the pop feel with this post. It has a pounding synth, bass heavy drums and exhilarating breakdowns and build ups.

Crystal Castles - Vanished

And finally, the lone Boys Noize song of the post. I chose this because, 1. Crystal Castles are awesome, 2. Van She are awesome and 3. Alice Glass, the lead singer of Crystal Castles was involved in an accident and their USA tour in support of their LP has now turned into an Ethan Kath DJ set for the time being. Hopefully she recovers quickly and they can re tour, and hopefully play at a non 21 venue!

Couleurs

As previously mentioned, M83 has a new album coming out later in the year. The first track has dropped and has intensified my interest in the album.

M83 - Couleurs

This song is simply epic. There is so much going on, from the erie synth that opens the track, lasting throughout the entire song, to the cryptic voices lining the final two minutes of the song. Lush keyboards clash with striking guitar chords to create an amplified masterpiece. Couleurs is different from past M83 songs in that it feels a bit more dancey. The drumbeat consist of a spastic build up not seen in previous M83 songs. I would not be surprised to see some knockout dance floor remixes done of this song. It has potential to be a real dance floor classic.

Djedjotronic - Ghetto Girl

I was surprised to find out Djedjotronic is from France and that they share close ties with the Ed Banger crew. They aren't on a major label, they don't sound much like Ed Banger artists. They sound like emulators of the French Touch sound, not producers. It's still great music and this is one of my favorite songs by Djedjotronic. Like Couleurs, the first 2/3's of the track is instrumental, however vocals appear at the end. Unlike Couleurs these vocals can be deciphered, which can be considered good.

Get Shakes - Disneyland (Part 1)

Get Shakes reminds me a lot of The Rapture, before they were on a major label. Listen to this song and you too will hear the similarities. The voice is totally different but the manner in which the bass and guitars are utilized are very similar. This is the Dance-Punk of 2004 and 05 reborn in 2008, and it couldn't of sounded better. Be sure to listen to Sister Self Doubt, it so is the reincarnation of Sister Savior, they even share the same first word. Was this intentionally done? Whatever, it does not matter, both bands are great!

Elroy and Tom Piper - Point'N'Clap (Matty Martinez Mix)

And finally, I'll leave you with some down and dirty electro! I've been listening to this jam for quite awhile now and still love it. It's an essential electro tune remixed by Matty Martinez. I have no clue who he is but this remix is brilliant and the vocals done by Gabrielle Abella are top notch.

The Ting Tings - Great DJ

Apparently the NME is already all over this band, I've only purchased that magazine a few times in my life, so I wouldn't know. I guess a band is big when NME loves them? Maybe that applies to England and the rest of Europe but here in the States most bands that NME champions are relatively unknown. The Ting Ting's may be unknown here for longer, they write catchy Dance-Punk, which seems to be en Vogue once more, and have a hot female vocalist. Bands with female vocalists usually explode, and with the exception of No Doubt, fade away after only one or two hits. (The Donnas, Northern State, The Cardigans, and soon to be Paramore) Hopefully this doesn't happen to The Ting Ting's, they are too good to fade into obscurity.

The Ting Tings - Great DJ (Calvin Harris Remix)

Here's a remix from a man whose been getting plenty of mentioning on my blog, Calvin Harris. You may not approve of his LP, but this remix is ace. You can't deny it's greatness. It makes the song even more of a club worthy track, hyping it with a harder drum track, more shouts, echoes and synth. What I like about it most is that it still manages to keep the rock and roll feel too it. You know, the organic feeling that comes when a song is recorded in lo-fi and production isn't as slick as mainstream rock or electronic music.

Kylie Minogue - In My Arms

In My Arms is by far my favorite Kylie track off of X. It possesses the same amount of playfulness as WOW without the annoying WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW, which allows the track to reach new heights of superiority. This was the track that led me to speculate Calvin Harris's involvement on X. Contrary to the title, which reminded me of Mylo.

Kylie Minogue - I'm In The Mood For Love

That's not to say British DJ and producer Mylo was not involved with X. He was in fact a producer for Kylie, however his tracks did not make it onto the album. Luckily for us, they appeared on the net a few weeks ago. Here's one of them. I can see why they might not have been chosen. This song is very good, it's just not in line with Kylie's type of music. Her music is less serious and much more playful. It's still a very good track, just not right for her.

Teenage Bad Girl - Ghost House

With posts featuring Kylie, Rihanna, and Calvin Harris I'm beginning to feel as if my blog is getting a little to poppy. I need to bring focus back towards the music that made me want to start this in the first place. Here's a solid track from Teenage Bad Girl's 2007 album Cocotte which was featured on my best of list. This is a medium tempo track which ideally would play in your car as your race past a city skyline on a dark and chilly night. It reminds me alot of Kavinsky in the sense that it doesn't really go anywhere. No real climax, no noticeable changes in the song, yet it refrains from becoming boring and tedious. One of my favorite tracks from the album.

Kissy Sell Out - Her (Touche Remix)

This track is an absolute onslaught of Filter House. It's got all the dynamics a song in this genre should possess. It's actually quite old, but I've been listening to it alot again recently so I felt like sharing it. Definitely check out more Kissy Sell Out, it's all so good.

Pre-Weekend Post

Hey, it’s time for another post. And in honor of the beautiful few days of 60 degree weather we’ve been having here in the bay area I’m going to post a bunch of videos. This way you can stay indoors and out of the sun.

Let’s push things forward with a collaboration of mdmAmazing proportions. I’m sure you’ve seen this already, but if you haven’t it’s definitely worth your time.

Rihanna – Umbrella (Featuring Klaxons)

This live versions of umbrella is astoundingly catchy, and for Klaxons, alarmingly poppy. We should have all seen this coming; they’ve stated their mainstream ambitions countless times. From wanting to work with Dr. Dre to pontificating about their follow up album, Klaxons have shot for the limelight. They still sound great, and if this is a taste of what’s to come from their next album all I can say is that I’m down.

How fucking sweet was it that they used the pyramids? I don’t want to hear about them ripping off Daft Punk, they opened for the robots throughout Europe and have earned the right to use it for one performance. You people complaining about this are probably the ones complaining about Daft Punk’s appearance at the Grammy’s, you’ll never be satisfied, just shut up already.

Todosantos – Acid Boys and Acid Girls

What an EP, the entire Acid Grilzz ep is terrific. This is arguably the best track from it. Sure the remixes would fare better in a club environment, but this is the most diverse. It kicks right in with the danceable beats and features many tempo changes, build ups and break downs. This is a banging track with a horrendously confusing video accompanying it.

My Robot Friend – Understand Your Man (Steril Remix)

This track is pounding; it features an acid backing bass line. The percussion is ace and the synth plays a perfect role for a song of this caliber. I have no clue what or who Steril is but I’ll be on the lookout for more of his, her, it, whatever’s work.

NAVEL4EVE – Freakshow

This is some pretty cute electro-pop. NAVEL4EVE is from Canada and just released an EP that shares the name of this song. Every song could pass for a single, it’s all so good. The songs are synth heavy and dependant on female vocals delivered in a cheeky manner. I wonder how big they will get in 08? And if you like anime...

I'm back, with only a day in between the last post, I believe that is a first for this blog. I'm really wanting to get on Hype Em so I'm going to change up some of the dynamics of the posts. I guess I'm trying to sell out to the mannnnn, man. Anyways, I've been in a good mood all day there have been plenty of reasons to feel great. It was sunny here in San Francisco for the first time in a week, I've got a great line of concerts coming up and music is just so good right now. So why not post some DISCO, well OK not disco but disco themed music. Every song in this post can be connected to disco, so let's get started.

LCD Soundsystem - Freakout / Starry Eyes

Being totally amazed and surprised with each new song I hear by this NYC band is something I've come to expect. James Murphy is a musical genius, he is the elite, there is no one better today. This blog has featured many DFA acts before and will continue to do so in the future because everything James Murphy does is grand. (Can I become an intern at the DFA Studios now?) Seriously though, this song is really good. It's pure disco and so great. It's an authentic tune as well, it would fit right in on the studio 54 soundtrack. The DFA are perfectionists who always put out quality work and this double track b-side proves it.

I think we can all figure out the disco connection here.

Dead Disco - Automatic

I've been into this band for quite some time now. Apparently the lead singer left and is now doing solo elctro work under the name Little Boots. I'd post that track but I figure everyone has already heard it as it's exploded across the net. So are Dead Disco still together? Whatever the case may be the few songs they do have are off the chains. This is another solid single, do check out the video as they are hot as hell. I'm really at a loss for words in regards to comparing them with another band, they aren't innovative but they do have a distinctive sound. And the disco connection is in the name. Even though it is the proclamation of disco's death.

datA - 7 Months To Forget

Here's some electro from remix extraordinary datA. This is part of a 4 song EP that is nothing short of amazing. Some really great beats are presented on this release and this happens to be my most favorite song from it. The song has a great 2 minute build up which leads to a bridge that is climatic. Defiantly invokes laser imagery which is what what the ep is called. And that is the link to disco, lasers were often utilized at disco techs.

Calvin Harris - I Created Disco

Finally a true disco tune. If disco sounded anything like faux electro. I always find it funny that this album is entitled I Created Disco when it possess electronic sounds. But then again electronic music is somewhat based off of disco, so it works. And I'd like to correct myself, in the last post I stated that Calvin Harris was from Ireland when in fact we all know he's really from Scotland.

How Many Days Until Justice?

Justice have embarked on something epic, something corporate and something great, the MySpace Music Tour featuring Justice, Diplo, Fancy, Busy P, and Chromeo. It's coming to the bay area, I've got my ticket and I can't wait! I was unable to attend their last show here (I HATE YOU MEZZANINE!!!) and have been iterated ever since. I'm psyched, pumped, jazzed, whatever adjective you wish you use is fine, I just want Justice.

Justice - Phantom Part III (Boys Noize Vs. Fraulein Edit)

Here's one of the best Justice remixes ever! It sounds like something from Daft Punk's Alive 2008. It is a pounding edit that has the intensity of a live set. When I listen to this I get restless to hear something of this caliber live. Boys Noize has had a stellar 2007 and with remixes like we can all understand why. How great is this tune?

Chromeo - Fancy Footwork (Surkin Rogue Teens Remix)

I usually hate sirens in music, I find them loud and annoying. I mean, it's not like if I'm out dancing and I hear a siren I'm going to throw a fit but at home I tend to stray away from songs that rely on them. Surprisingly this song, that features a distorted siren for the entire song (even relies solely on it for melody for the first few minutes), is not annoying to me. I don't know what it is, I guess the distortion applied to it, or how subtle it is, it just lacks the annoying qualities other siren songs possess. The synth's don't even appear until the last third of the song. Amazingly it manages to remain interesting. Too bad Chromeo isn't scheduled for the San Francisco date, I've been wanting to see them for quite awhile now.

Kylie Minogue - Wow (CSS Remix)

Wow, what can I say about this song? Kylie's X is a great pop album! Tons of fun and it feature's tracks produced by Irish electro-pop superstar Calvin Harris. I know there is a substantial amount of hate out there on the net for him, but if you take his work light heartily, it is a lot of fun. It's nothing new, and I don't think (no matter how ironic his lyrics may be) he intends it to be taken as such. Well, that's another debate for another post but I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I was able to tell which tracks he produced even before ever reading that he was in voled in production. This CSS remix adds more punch to the pop and makes it even dancier and a lot more fun.

Cut Copy - Lights and Music (Boys Noize Happy Birthday Remix)

As promised, here are some Cut Copy remixes, this should complete the entire Lights and Music single. Starting things off is an excellent Boys Noize remix of the song. This is how a textbook electronic remix should be conducted. Longer buildup, more epic and a lot jazzy. Almost as good as the original.

Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya - Fuck Freind (CSS Remix)

Here's another great synth filled song I've been listening to for the past few months. The Kitsune comp leaked back in December but I haven't posted many songs from it. It's a great compilation for sure, featuring, until now, exclusive cuts from an wide array of artists. This comp and the previous one before it have been so compelling I've been driven to find all their previous comps. Although dated now, they still provide a decent mix of songs you may have never heard before.

The Kills - Hook and Line

I'm posting this because I saw them last Thursday on Valentine's Day. What better way to spend the day of love than to watch a band that reeks of sex appeal? It was a solid performance, both members sounded great doing their respective tasks. I liked being up close with The Kills my only lament is the mystique of the first show I witnessed of them is gone. I first saw them a few years ago with Bloc Party at the Warfield. The ominous stage overshadowed the lone two members and as steam began to engulf both members I felt a sense of awe. I was excited and entranced, their performance was, simply put, captivating. This one was good too.

Bangalter is the Master

To my surprise I awoke with an mp3 in my e-mail inbox. My friend supposedly had sent me a brand new Thomas Bangalter track. I listened to it and instantly fell in love. It sounds like Discovery era Daft Punk, and one can never go wrong with pure pop perfection such as that. I did hold some apprehension towards the track, my doubts were imminent. Why would Thomas Bangalter release a track? When would he have the time, between the Alive 2007 tour, releasing the live cd and rehearsing for the Grammys? (Note: Did you guys see that, that was neat!) I guess when you're in love with music and possess the talent that Bangalter has, you'll always be producing tracks.

I did some research and it turns out the rest of the nets are just as mystified by this track as well. Apparently someone under the handle TB and the website of daftalive.com post a zshare link on the electronic music blog Headphone Sex. Since its open posting, it virtually could have been any amateur producer looking to hype up his or her music. But it's really really good! It has to be Bangalter and even if it isn't I wish to know what the TB stands for becuase I'd definatly want to hear more music from this artist.

Strip Steve - You and I

Here's an electro jam similar in sound to the Bangalter track that I just posted. I am hooked on this song and have been looking for more Strip Steve since I acquired this track a few days ago. The last 30 seconds see the execution of a perfect outro for a dance floor banger. This will be big.

Simian Mobile Disco - Love

Let’s not forget another great track consummated through love. Simian Mobile Disco's Attack Decay Sustain Release LP still has me dancing every time I listen to it. This track falls in order with everything posted here today, so why not draw attention to this excellent track once more.

Ladyhawke - Professional Suicide

Ladyhawke apparently are from England, Australia and New Zealand. Whatever. She makes good music that totally sounds like it’s from the 80s. It has that 80s teen movie feel, that sense of entitlement and arrogance. This song utilizes the vocal technique of 'Na, Na, and Na’s’ to lead into a pounding chorus. I just wish the production was a little fuller. I suppose when she gets signed it'll improve until then I'll make do with this.

Hot Chip - Bendable Poseable

Hot Chip just put out another great album. To ALLLLLL the haters (MATT, DAN) I feel the urge to offer some advice. Lock yourselves in a padded white room and listen to the album on repeat for 3 days straight. By the end of this experiment you will begin to literally bounce off all of the walls. The album is crazy, it's powerful, and it’s hot. You won’t be able to keep from moving while listening to it. This is a great cut from the album. At first I found the synthy breakdown towards the end annoying but now that sequence refuses to leave my mind.

Ellen Allien and Apparat - Sleepless (XTC Mix)

Here's a chilling remix from Minimal Techno superstars Ellen Allien and Apparat. They defiantly do create some great music; I can see why they chose to work with each other so often. This song clocks in at 5 minutes and is exactly what you'd expect from a remix entitled XTC of a textbook minimal techno track. This song possesses the effect to calm one down after a rave or night at the club.

Today wasn't that great, I just got a new phone which totally sucks because I can't figure out how to use it, I waited at a BART station for over an hour and now I'm pretty tired but have a concert to go to. At least I have something to cheer me up on this dismal day. Ladytron have just announced that June will see the release of their fourth LP entitled, Velocifero!

Witching Hour wasn't as great as I had hoped it would be, don't get me wrong I enjoyed it but when compared to the first two Ladytron albums it feels quite rushed. However, after reading this list of people involved with LP number four my expectations are now high. Just take a look at this, "he new record was produced by Ladytron with additional production by Alessandro Cortini (Modwheelmood, NIN), and Vicarious Bliss of Ed Banger Records (Justice, etc), and mixing courtesy of Michael Patterson (Beck, P. Diddy)." If that doesn't get you excited, well then I don't know what can! This album cannot be a disappointment, the mere involvement of these people won't allow for it.

In honor of this development I shall now share with you some Ladytron.

Ladytron - That Was The Way That I Found You

This is by far my favorite Ladytron track. I remember buying 604 in 2004 at Amoeba records while on a field trip for my Sophomore English class in high school. My friend had no clue who they were and till this day does not. I guess he's just not into electro-pop. I remember picking this album because the band's name reminded me of the Roxy Music song. My thought process was something along the lines of, Ladytron is a Roxy Music song which is from the 80's and everything from the 80's was great, well with the exception of hair metal, but this can't be hair metal because they all have uniformly short haircuts and sleek black jumpsuits. I checked the date the album was published, 2001, and concluded that this must be some sort of band that draws from all that was good in the 80's, and sure enough I was correct.

Ladytron - Destroy Everything You Touch

One of the good songs from Witching Hour. Hopefully the new album isn't as lackluster.

Vicarious Bliss - Theme From Vicarious Bliss (Justice Remix)

And here's a song from Vicarious Bliss, who apparently did the mixing on Velocifero. The original is ace but the remix by Justice is even better. But doesn’t sound cast this music just yet; this isn't your typical Justice remix. They bring something new to the table with this remix. Defiantly check this song out!

Shitty Rip, Oh well!

So I saw The Teenagers a few nights ago and all I can say about their performance was that it was not as bad as others make it out to be, but it did let me down. I guess I felt that it was lacking in certain spots and could have been better. Let's hope that they improve with time.

Cut Copy - Lights And Music

Here is the new cut copy song. I like it a lot more than So Haunted, but not quite as much as Hearts on Fire. Cut Cupy have a very distinct sound that sounds all too familiar. It sounds a lot like 90's pop based off of 80's new wave. They may not be creating the most innovative music but they are fuckin awesome! This rip is low quality, I promise I'll post a higher quality as soon as I can. In the meantime we're forced to wait for In Ghost Colours, which is sure to be a great album due to the involvement DFA's Tim Goldsworthy.

Dondolo - Dondolisme

Here's a song from French electro-pop act Dondolo. The album is quite an undiscovered gem and has diversity between each of the songs. The vocals strangely sound like The Teenagers doing italio-disco, in part because of the thick accented deep voice speaking lyrics in the same manner that The Teenagers song are executed. However, Dondolo sounds nothing like The Teenagers and this may be a good thing for many of you. Download this and prepare to be surprised at how hype-worthy Dondolo is. Oh yeah, it's entirely in French.

Lo-Fi-Fnk - The End

I'm still in love with this album, it consists of all the ingredients necessary when creating the perfect pop album. Catchy hooks, cute lyrics and musings filled with optimism and frivolous fun. Want proof? Here, Watch this...

How adorable is that? They look my age and confused, as if they are trying their hardest to make a music video. Defiantly gotta see them on tour when they come here.

Stop The Rain!!!

It's raining today which has totally ruined my plans. I was going to go for a long run and then come back and do some homework. I would follow through with the run if it wasn't raining so hard. Well I can't do that so instead I'll post some songs I've been listening to over the past week.

Still Going - Still Going Theme

First up is a 2007 release from DFA's sub label, Death From Abroad. This is a vocal-less piano guided track that keeps things relaxed, mellow and consist ant. DFA has been putting out some great electronic tracks in 2007 and I'm confident that they shall continue to do so in 2007!

Hercules & Love Affair - Athene

This is another DFA release with a slightly different vibe. Here's more of neo-disco electronic music from New York's finest, Hercules and Love Affair. If you're a fan of Blind you'll like this song for sure, but be advised it is a bit more laid back. I think the theme I'm going for with today's post is a laid back and chilled feeling. I guess it matches the dreariness of the outdoors with all the rain and clouds I see when I look out of my window.

Thieves Like Us - Drugs In My Body (Pornophonics Remix)

Here's another slow builder which once again matches the atmosphere in today's skies. I like the original more, but this remix does it justice. It starts of slow and quiet but builds to a pulsating finale that the original does not have. That is it's only strength over the original. Now onto my homework.

So, I wanted to get this post done before I started school and I failed. I finished my second day of school and am now forcing myself to do this post before the homework load gets to heavy. So
here it is, my list of the best Pop albums and songs of 2007. First, we'll start with the albums.

10. Amerie - Because I Love It

I don't listen to a whole lot of R&B, however I do find the genre to be quite compelling. I enjoy many of the hit singles I tend to hear throughout life and occasionally go as far as to download them. (You can stand under my umbrella, Ella, Ella, Eh, Eh) Amerie is one of the few R&B artists I make an effort to listen to. I fell in love with Why Don't We Fall In Love way back in 2002 when I heard it and again in 2005 with 1 Thing. She never fails to deliver good R&B and it really is a shame she is not as popular as other artists. She does deserve it.

9. Interpol - Our Love To Admire

While Interpol may not be my most favorite band, I do hold a soft spot for them. Turn on the Bright Lights was one of the first CD's I bought triggering my musical enlightment. I'm sure you all went through this as a young tween. The transition of listening to pop and whatever MTV/The Radio expose you to and started to discover new artist on your own. This along with Hot Hot Heat's Make Up The Breakdown were the first 2 rock CDs I bought. Hot Hot Heat completly sucks now, but Interpol have managed to put out the same CD 3 times and still remain a favorite. I guess I was a little disappointed with this disc, it sounds like Interpol. But then again I found myself enjoying it becuase it sounds like Interpol. I guess what I'm trying to say is, that it sounds like Interpol. Interpol has a good sound, but they need to create something new. Antics was higher up in my 2004 charts, I played that album to death. Our Love To Admire is good, but it's the same old Interpol.

8. Editors - An End Has A Start

I frown upon the many blogs and reviews that compare Editors with Interpol, but I hear the similiarities and will precede to do the same. Editors' first album was Interpol with dance-punk aspirations. Their second disc is a bit more tame, and pop friendly, than their first. It seems as if this was the disc Interpol were hoping to make with Our Love To Admire. I enjoyed An End Has A Start and listened to it non stop for about all of June. Here is my favorite song from that album.

7. Chromatics - Night Drive

The great thing about Chromatics is the fact that I could have put them in my Electronic list and no one would have raised any objection. They are one of the numerous electro rock bands that are present on the music scene today. They have been putting out some great releases and I was not let down by their debut LP, Night Drive. It has some great tracks and is definatly one of 2007's best, as well as most underratted/underhyped.

6.Beirut - The Flying Cup Club

This is probably the closest I got to acoustic this year. The Flying Cup Club is a realxing yet mesmorising and unique album from Zach Condon. It's filled with plenty of two to three minute pop gems. I know you all already have it and probably have read a million reviews and best of lists singing the album's prasies so I won't go on any longer. The album speaks for itself, definatly one of the years best!

5. Midnight Juggernauts - Dystopia

Austrialia has a great scene forming at the moment. From the lush synth pop sounds of Cut Copy to the 80's new wave agnst of Van She. The danceable riffs from Soft Tigers and Lost Valentinos help Austrialia prove that it is one of the hippest places to be. Listening to Dystopia is only icing on the Kangaroo-Kake. The Juggs put out a great electro rock album and then embarked on a tour with Justice. I can't wait to hear some new material from these guys, but in the meantime I'll be dancing to this.

4. New Young Pony Club - Fantastic Playroom

Imagine CSS from England, oh and not as rude (according to Lovefoxxx) and you've got NYPC. This album isn't New Rave! What is New Rave anyway? I don't know. i Just can't imagine ravers dancing to this, it's far to slow. It's still a great listen, unless it's being played at a rave, so please get the album and listen to it on your iPod.
New Young Pony Club - Fan

3, M.I.A. - Kala

This album should be in the Electronic list but it's not becuase it trancends ALL genres. This is like muisc on crack and it's quite awesome. I had the pleasure of seeing her live at Vegoose in Vegas last October and it was the 2nd best show of the night (NO ONE tops Daft Punk) If you get the chance to see her, please do you won't regret it. Heres a cut from the new Kitsune Comp. It's a killer remix of the already great XR2.

2. Klaxons - Myths of the Near Future

2007 was the year of the Klaxons. After stirring interest with the blogs back in late 2006 they managed to blow up and have a few hit singles in 2007. They have been touring all year and now are writing a follow up to their debut LP. I think they're fun and interesting characters. Watch their older music videos they are great. I know, you probably disagree with this. I don't care! It's my list and if I want to be a fanboy, I will! Seriously though, I do think this album is underrated and people were expecting something more along the lines of Silent Alarm and therefore rejected this. It really is a good album, and too prove that I'll give you a b-side that wasn't on the album.

Top Electronic Music of 2007

OK, so this year I've decided to split my lists into 2. I've listened to so much music this year that I would have trouble creating just one list. I'll be splitting it into 2, Electronic music and Popular Music (which includes indie rock, pop, hip-hop and r&b), lists upon which I will post the top 10 albums and top 25 songs. Today I will post my favorite Electronic music from the year and some mp3's to go along with it.

10. Teenage Bad Girl - Cocotte

This release from one of the many French Filter House DJs who is not on Ed Banger is packed full with pulsing synths, exciting drumbeats and bad ass production. A very underrated album that should have received more press. It would have probably gained more attention had it not been for the explosion of Justice, but I'm sure in time this album will come to be regarded as a very solid release.

9. LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver

I was surprised with the unanimous high placing of this album on year end lists across the net. Yes, it is a great album. James Murphy has outdone himself once again with this release, but for me the album grew boring quickly. While this phenomenon usually occurs with all music for me, my ebb for this CD has yet to recede. I have yet to come back to this CD for another round of listening. I guess, while more expansive and mature, it reminds me too much of 2005's debut CD.
LCD Soundsystem - Time To Get Away

8. Air - Pocket Symphony

Many say this album is not as great as Air's previous releases, however I find it to be quite a memorable CD. I was addicted to it throughout the summer and would often find myself listening to it on summer mornings as the sun rose and I prepared for my dreadful summer classes. The somber tone throughout the CD resonated with my discontent in having to partake in a summer session. This should have been on more Best Of lists.

7. Shinichi Osawa - The One

At the time of constructing this list I placed this album at number 7, it's been about a week since then and I'm thinking to myself how much higher this should have been. I've been listening to this album more and more and it's appeal grows on me each time. I find myself humming some of the lyrics from this album, a feat usually only achieved with pop albums. I could see this having an immensely longer listening life than the Justice CD. For now I feel 7 is a good spot for it.

6. Daft Punk - Alive 2007

Oh my god, when I close my eyes and allow the music to immerse itself around me it feels as if I am back at the Greek show (or Vegoose, whichever) enjoying the greatest concert ever. As I listened to this album on my iPod for the first two weeks I had it a smile was always present on my face. I must have looked like a mad man, sitting on BART slightly smiling and bopping my head to big beat electronic. I didn't care! This album is great, and is a must have for anyone who attended their live shows in 2006-2007.

5. Boys Noize - Oi Oi Oi

A friend of mine who is not into much electronic music, with the exception of the Punks and Justice, described this as a boring album with Justice sounding synth that never stops. If only he knew how wrong he is! This album is far from boring, and while the sounds may be similar to Justice, it in some ways is a lot superior. The only failing aspect of this album is it's incredible length. I can never make it through in just one listen. Still a solid release, I definitely look forward to hearing more Boys Noize in the future. (His remixes are insane!!!!)

4. Digitialism - Idealism

Who knew Germans could be so catchy? When I listen to other German electronic music, which is quite good, I find it slow, relaxed and atmospheric. This is in your face poppy electronic music, in the vein of Daft Punk and Junior Jack. This album is best when listened to in full and unlike Oi Oi Oi, I was able to do so on a number of occasions. Pogo is pure pop bliss, Idealism is pop indifference and one of my favorite tracks Home Zone pays homage to the art of throwing and promoting a house party.

Justice first gained widespread attention with their remix of Simian's never be alone. A superb remix by any definition, but to ever imagine the developments that have occurred throughout their careers since then would have been unfathomable. Justice have done what every other electronic act since Daft Punk have failed to do. They have become mainstream, they were able to break America, they were able to put Paris back on the map. While † may not be the greatest album in terms of innovation and musical genius, the hype and acclaim that surrounds it warrants it a top spot on this list. Just look at many of the reviews prior to this, Justice is used as a reference point musically more than once, for proof. They have become icons in the Electronic music scene, there is not one act who wouldn't want to follow in their footsteps. 2007 was the year Justice was brought upon the world!

2. Burial - Untrue

This is an album that I discovered late in the year and fell in love with. I had not heard Burial's self titled debut prior to this ( I since have and it is great too) and found this to be a gem. I listen to this while falling asleep, it mystifies the silence of the night and allows for a peaceful sleeping experience. There's not much more I can say about this that hasn't already been said. The voices are beautiful, the crackling is enchanting the mystic surrounding the music is truly wonderful.

1. Simian Mobile Disco - Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release

Fuck Mezzanine, I wanted to see these guys when they came here but I am not 21, yet. Their live show looks interesting, and it would surely add to the greatest of their music. I began listening to this album around the same time as † and I do truly feel that this album is a lot better. I've listened to † more, but can honestly say I would rather be stranded on an island with this instead. This album did not place as high as I would have imagined on other Year End lists, which is understandable. Justice was the token Electronic act this year, however I expect these guy's sophomore release to become as mainstream as justice. Listen to Hustler and tell me that couldn't take the place of Smack My Bitch Up in American popular culture!

Happy New Year everyone, 2008 is finally here and I am defiantly looking forward to some new music this year. Here are a few albums to be hyped for in 08:

M83 has a new album coming out, and there is no way it will be anything less than awesome.

The Presets are at work on a follow up, My People, the new single was just unleashed

throughout the Internet. It sounds great and I now am more excited for their next LP.

London based, Does It Offend You, Yeah? are going to release their debut album this spring.

This is one of my most anticipated albums so far, I love all of their songs. They do a great job mixing both rock and electronic elements with their songs and I'm sure no track on the album will be considered filler. Now if they would only tour the US.

The Teenagers, a band from both Paris and London, will be releasing their debut LP in 2008 as well. I've heard all of their demos which will be featured on the album and though stripped down and minimally produced sound full.

There are plenty other bands coming out with records in 2008 that I am definitely looking forward to. Cut Copy, Sebastian, The Cure, Morrissey, Hot Chip (although you've probably already heard that) and a whole list of others. Dancing definitely will not cease in 2008!

Now onto some music already out there, on the Internet at least, for your years to listen to. First up is an unreleased single from DFA's newest act Hercules and Love Affair. This is a disco tune featuring Antony, of Antony and the Johnsons fame, that will surely cause you to get up and dance. It sounds like a 70's disco tune with modern production. James Murphy's DFA label never fails to deliver some great dance music, they truly are a label you can trust.

Okay, if you've been dancing to every tune I've posted here you are probably in dire need of a break. Your legs are probably tired, your heart rate is unusually high and you need to find some coke...too drink. (What's wrong with Coca Cola?) Lightspeed Champion is perfect music for the morning after a night of partying. Listen to this and your hang over will be that much easier. Disclaimer: While it is the solo project of Dev from Test Icicles, it is a completely different genre of music. It is just as amazing as Test Icicles were, but totally different. You have been notified.

Lightspeed Champion - Waiting Game

Finally, catchy pop music from a Sweedish duo known as Lo-Fi-Fnk. I've just discovered them and find their album the perfect mix of pop, new wave and rock. This is their lead single from their campy album called Boylife, which was released on Moshi Moshi in 2006. I don't know the status of the group, if they are working on a new album or not. But they are playing a few shows, keep your eyes open for them.

Greetings everyone, today is Christmas eve and I've got some electro goodies for everyone. You might not have time to listen to all to these songs over the next few days, families reunions and the like, but do download and get around to hearing these songs sometime soon.

Evil Hinko - Gedankenhochsprung

First is one of the most addicting straight up electro tracks I've heard in awhile. This song will keep you wanting more. Gedankenhochsprung is the title track off of the 2006 EP which also features a solid remix by Robert Babicz. All of Evil Hinko's work is great and more will be featured here in the future for sure.

Pryda- Ironman

Next is Pryda's Ironman which was one of many great Pryda releases in 2007. This is another 10 minute song which creates some of the same vibes as the first song I posted, but with a more housey vibe. Both songs are guided by their beats but manage to create a full listening experience.

Joakim - Are You Vegetarian?

The final track is a throwback to 2003, it's a song I heard a few months ago on Beats in Space and had to find for myself. I've heard his remixes and his Beats in Space mix but did not know that Joakim had relased his own material. Are You Vegetarian possess a slow acid-house kind of atmosphere that sends tingles down your spine as you listen to the song progress. Also, for more of Joakim's great work check out his Hearts on Fire remix.

We Are Terrorists - Ground Zero

Keeping up with my unwritten theme of flooding every post with a slueth of French Touch electronic acts, I present you with We Are Terrorists! A live electronic act from France that insists on dressing as terrorist who rock out with keyboards and guitars. I suspect this really brings out the 'lolz' as the pictures truly are funny. Moving on, they appear to be the French eqivulent of Does It Offend You, Yeah?, only better. They've released a three song EP that consists entirely of short 2-3 minute jams that sound really promising. They have a few more songs on their MySpace, so be sure to give them a listen. (I like their artwork.)

ST - Make It To The End

Here's a song I've been listening to alot over the past few weeks. ST's entire album People I Barely Know is addicting which made it very hard to pick out a track to share. This mellow vocal electro-pop tune is probably my favorite from the Sweedish musician. The entire album sounds similar to this song, but in a good way. It is far from repetitive which makes for high replay value.

Bloc Party - Where Is Home? (Burial Remix)

And Finally, a track from my favorite band, Bloc Party. I doubt I need to write an introduction for this band as they have become quite popular and very polarizing over the past year. NME has given them the title 'The Band That Broke America' althought I'm sure Muse deserves that more as they seem more popular here. They released an album in the beginning of the year and a single at the end, many remixes were released in between the two, this is one of them. This remix is exactly what you'd expect if you were to mix Burial with the Bloc. The already chilling Where Is Home becomes even more spine tingling, as Burial works his or her magic stripping the song down to the bare essentials yet creating a vast atmospheric soundscape. I really enjoy the vocal distortions done on this remix. It is rare that I prefer a remix to the original song, but this remix is too grand to be overlooked. Burial seems to be an unstoppable force in the electronic world!

Third and Final Daft Punk Reference (For Now)

Tonight I'm planning on starting my second attempt at creating a mix. I don't have any decks yet so I am unable to mix in real time but I use software to mix and beat match. I use Adobe Audition to cut, change the tempo and layer tracks, later putting them together to create a mix. In order to do so I must revisit my extensive library and pick songs that would work well together, and for the past hour that's what I've been doing. I came across a few songs I forgot I had and I shall share them, but first here's some Shinichi.

Shinichi Osawa - Electro411

Shinichi Osawa - Detonator

Shinichi Osawa is many things, the head of his own label, former bassist of a rock band (much like the electronic hero's of Daft Punk), producer for a few Japanese pop band's singles, and ultra successful electronic artist. Here are two of my favorite tracks from Shinichi Osawa's latest album, The One. This album is sure to garner him mainstream success in the blogging world as it is on par with every other recent release in the electro world. It's a solid album filled with raw distortion, catchy melodies and pure electronic excellence. Electro411 is a solid banger that is properly named as it flawlessly channels elements from every major electro release of the year. Detonator is a fun vocal electro tune that relentlessly brings the dance. Both tracks will sound great on the dance floor, expect to hear more Shinichi Osawa in the New Year.

Para One - Dudun Dun (MSTRKRFT Remix)

One track I forgot I had was the MSTRKRFT remix of Dudun Dun by Para One. This track, which includes a strangely addictive use of whistles, slowly builds up to a very intense climax, I've used this song in my previous attempt to create a mix and plan on using it again. Attempting to beat match the first half of the song is insanely fun!

Pantha du Prince - Steiner im Flug

Finally, closing with a track from Hendrik Weber's current project Pantha du Prince. This is a track off of The Bliss, his latest album which led to a 2007 tour that was just completed. There are no future plans to tour, but you can still enjoy this great minimal techno artist at home. This track, complete with calming effects, would play best as a backdrop while awaking during the early morning hours. It's a nice listen and the rest of the album sounds just as great! The French (and German) Touch

What's up everyone, I know it's been awhile since my last update but I've been busy listening to some great music that I am going to share with you now. This week has been great, I've discovered a few new great albums that I will definitely be listening to for the rest of the year. Next week is going to be even better as I am now done with the semester. That's right no more school until 2008, my only regret is that there are no great concerts. The holidays are always a slow period in the music scene.

Daft Punk - Face To Face (MP4 sorry)

First up is a track off of the greatest live album of the year! Alive 2007 is Daft Punk's audio documentation from their mind blowing tour that was conducted throughout 2007. This was my favorite part of the concert (well, except for the encore) both musically and visually. When I saw them in Berkeley over the summer I was surprised to hear Face to Face, I was excited as it is my 2nd favorite Daft Punk song. (I was hoping for Digital Love, but alas that was not included in the live set) I, as was everyone I talked to after the show, was impressed with their stellar song choices. The way every song was mixed and mashed up was perfect. The entire 1.5 hours is an epic mix of Daft Punk's complete discovery. Alive 2007 is best when heard in one full, continuous session from start to finish, everyone who is a fan of the band should buy it, NOW!

Moonbootica - Listen (Chab Remix)

Next is the Chab remix of Moonbootica's, an electro duo from Hamburg, Listen. The original is a closely wrapped song that does it's job in providing an interesting listening experience, but this remix is more intense. The intensity builds from a pulsating synth line that opens the seven minute track. A chilling piano echoes over the entire track, with vocals that perfectly compliment the erie atmosphere. This song is a chilling dance track that will keep your body moving. Please do yourself a favor and dig deeper into the Moonbootica cataloug, they produce some wonderful electronic music, and their label Moonbootique has some quality artist signed as well.

TEPR - Coke & Cream

Finally, a track from TEPR that isn't the data remix of Minuit Jacuzzi! Yes, that remix is great, data is awesome but TEPR has put out a spectacular album and other tracks need to be heard form it. This song is an assault that will cause even the most tired, fragile and weak person to get up and dance. I like the breakdown and buildup that occurs 2/3's of the way through the song. I always feel completely immersed in the track when I reach that point of the song.

Inaugural Post

Hello everyone, this is going to serve as my personal blog where I will post videos, songs and anything else that I find interesting in my life. My name is Mike and I like electronic music and Rock. I can enjoy some Hip-Hop and Pop but generally do not venture too far out into these realms of music. I go to school and find that music plays an important role in my life, it keeps me sane through finals and what not, so I want to share what I enjoy.

Here are some of the basics:

I've seen Daft Punk twice! (In July 2007 and again in October)
I'm a fan of all forms of electronic music, with the exception of jungle
I use to have a very basic DJ setup, but sold it for front row tickets to see The Cure
I am planning on buying some Technics in the near future, as I would like to return to DJing
I'm a very big Bloc Party fan

And now, let's begin with some music:

Burial - Untrue

Here is the title track off of the latest Burial LP, Untrue. I've, as well as everyone else in the world, have been digging this album for the past month. And what's not to love about it? Erie beats overlaid with shadowy samples create one of the most atmospheric records of the year. The Burial LP was good, at times boring, but overall a quality release, untrue takes this formula and goes even further. This defiantly is a strong contender for record of the year. In the title track a sample which sounds a bit like Dave Gahan rips across an expected 2-Step beat. The entire track remains riveting, which is great because it clocks in at over six minutes.

Nick Muir - G Platz (Nick Muir Reprise)

Nick Muir's G Platz Reprise is a pulsating banger that can cause even the most grounded person's head to spin. The track itself never gets quite heavy, but the synth work does get tricky. Defiantly a must listen for anyone who is is interested in the electronic scene today sound.
